coming from the point of view of someone who just surfs online, I can definitely tell you that any site that requires me to download something gets me closing the window. I mean, everybody warns you about being infected by a bug, and it does not help that windows issues warnings such as "this content can potentially cause damage", and stuff like that. when it comes down to it, people visit a website for the content, not for the flash.

I agree, and I think most designers/developers are cottoning on to the fact that a website is as much about content and quality copy writing as looking aesthetically pleasing. That said, all factors play a role. It's all about communicating, quickly and efficiency, there are 1 of 100 ways to do that.

As is said in the article in different words, Google is primarily a content engine, I expect it will stay that way for a while. As we are a sales dominated economy, guess what brings the sales, lol!

Good advice. As a web designer and shopper, you need to concentrate on what you’re trying to say and sell. Don’t get caught up in the flash and cool graphic effects.

Great post and I have to say, I made a lot of those mistakes in the beginning!

I now understand, a good web design isn't about flashy graphics or animation, it's about real content and useful marketing features like email marketing.

I guess we all have to learn somewhere!
